Specifying an air press
- Force — determined by cylinder bore and available line pressure. Confirm the force required at the workpiece, not the press rating at maximum pressure.
- Frame — a C-frame gives open access on three sides for loading. Confirm throat depth and daylight against the part.
- Stroke and speed — allow clearance to load and unload, and consider whether a fast approach with a slow work stroke is needed.
- Control and safety — two-hand anti-tie-down control is standard practice where the operator hand can enter the work area.
- Tooling — the ram interface and bolster determine how tooling mounts. Custom configurations are common.
